Inspiring better business

Fasthosts newsletter kicks off

Hello and welcome to our first newsletter. In this month's issue, you'll find tips on SEO, a free white paper on cloud computing, some exciting news about our support services and a whole lot more.

We hope you find the content in this issue useful. Please let us know if there's something you'd like to see in future issues. Also, you might notice a slight rugby influence on this month's issue - we got a bit carried away with the Rugby World Cup. Still, all those early mornings give us more time to focus on ways to improve your services.

Tackle issues with our support

Don't let a technical issue push you into touch. Offload your problems to us, we're always here to support you. We've added a host of new support options to help you. In addition to our team of support experts, you can get help from how-to guides and articles. Plus, you'll see the same support features when you visit the site on your mobile, including updates to let you know about any service or systems issues.

The latest addition to our support is the Domain Health Report. It analyses the configuration of your domain name to look for Fasthosts services that might not work due to DNS-related issues. This report checks the following:

  • Domain registration status
  • Possible propagation issues
  • Website DNS and home page
  • Email
  • Additional non-essential services, such as FTP, SiteBuilder, and online email access.

Get to grips with cloud computing

Cloud computing, like the young superstar who takes the tournament by storm, has the world in a bit of a spin. Some businesses have even shown their on-premise IT the red card. But many others are still asking what cloud computing is and where it's going? Find out in a series of informative articles on our blog. They explain everything from the basics to how your business can get ahead with cloud computing.

What's more, as a valued customer, you can download Cloud UK: Adoption and Trends 2011 - a white paper from the Cloud Industry Forum - free. It's particularly useful for organisations that are contemplating or reviewing plans to adopt cloud services as part of a wider IT strategy.

Put up a strong defence - protect your brand from adult content

Just like a strong pack of forwards protecting a scrum half, businesses need to protect their brands. The most recent threat to your brand's online presence comes in the form of .XXX domains. Domain registry ICM designed the domains to signpost adult content on the Internet. However, many businesses and celebrities are worried that another party might use their brand name for adult content. Luckily, for more than 4,000 celebs, ICM has removed their names from the .XXX market.

Unfortunately, it hasn't done the same for businesses. .XXX domains are now on sale to companies in the adult-entertainment industry. But don't worry, you can stop these companies registering your brand name as a .XXX domain by blocking it today.

That's the final whistle. We hope you enjoyed it. Please let us know if there's a subject we didn't tackle, or something you'd like us to maul over in the next issue. And don't worry, you wont be blindsided with a load of rugby analogies next month.

Kind regards,
