The world of domain names is changing
Register for updates about the hundreds of new domain extensions (gTLDs) that are coming to market by following the steps below.
Explore the new domain extensions that will be coming available. You can either search for a specific extension, or navigate through the different categories like business, technology or leisure and lifestyle.
When you've identified the domain(s) or categories that you're interested in, you can create your very own watch list.
Enter a few simple contact details, and we'll do the rest. Once the domains that you're interested in have a launch date set, we'll notify you by email. Then, you can apply to register the ones you've identified as soon as they become available.
When new gTLDs are released, they become available through a number of phases. These three phases below will help you decide when to apply for the domain(s) that you're interested in.
This is the first phase that new gTLDs will be released through. This is the phase during which you need to apply for your domain if you have a trademark that matches the domain that you want to secure. The dates that new gTLDs go into Sunrise will vary, so ensure you create a watch list and register for updates. Then, we'll let you know as soon as the date for the Sunrise period is set.
This is the phase where higher value, shorter and more memorable domains go on sale. Not all new gTLDs will necessarily have a Landrush period, but we will notify you if/when any of the domains on your watch list are due to go into this period.
Once the Sunrise and Landrush periods finish, the new gTLDs will then go on general sale on a first come, first serve basis. Some domains may have specific restrictions on their use – the rules that govern their usage will be set by the individual registries.
At the moment, you are probably using an extension like .com or .net for your website and email. These extensions are known as ‘generic top level domains’, or gTLDs. Before long, ICANN will be releasing hundreds of new extensions like .web, .shop and .online that consumers will be able to register. They are being released at different times rather than all at once, so it's vital to register your interest in the extensions that you may wish to apply for.
As the domain market has matured, it has become increasingly difficult to find a relevant domain name and extension that is still available. With the release of the new gTLDs, there will now be a much greater opportunity to register a domain that reflects the specific type of industry that you operate in – like .shop, or the geographic region that you are based in – like .london.
Using one of the new gTLDs will help to differentiate your business online. For the first time you'll be able to utilise a domain that is truly unique to your industry or location and help to drive new business to your site. So imagine you are the owner of a hotel called The Bridge Hotel and located in London. You could use a domain like thebridge.hotel which a gives a shorter, more relevant and more memorable address for your customers to find you. Or, you could use thebridgehotel.london to emphasise your location to visitors.
The extensions are being released in batches starting early in 2014, carrying on throughout this year and beyond into 2015. You can sign up above to receive updates from us about the extensions that will become available as soon as we have release dates and prices for these.

You can take part in Sunrise if you have a registered trademark for your business. Every new domain extension registrar is required to give trademark holders the right to the preferred registration of their trademarks during the Sunrise registration period. If you want to take part in Sunrise you must register your trademark with The Trademark Clearinghouse via an official agent. The purpose of the Trademark Clearinghouse is to accept records of registered trademarks, to validate these records, and then to add them to the central trademark database. Fasthosts will provide you with information and a link to an official Trademark Clearinghouse agent where you can register your trademark.
Check through the different categories of new domain extensions above and then sign up for alerts about their release dates. As soon as we have information about when the extension(s) for the domains that you're interested in are becoming available, we'll get in contact with you.
