Setting up Direct Push and ActiveSync

ActiveSync synchronises the data in your Exchange mailbox with your Windows Mobile device.

Windows Mobile 5 and above has the added benefit of Direct Push, which sends new email directly to your mobile device when it arrives in your mailbox.

For ease of use, this guide is broken into two sections: finding your ActiveSync username and then setting up ActiveSync on your mobile device. If you already know the ActiveSync details for your Exchange mailbox please go straight to the second section.

Note: Some screens may appear slightly differently from our screenshots, depending on the version of Windows Mobile that your device uses.

Finding your ActiveSync username

Step 1: Log into your Fasthosts control panel and visit the overview page for the relevant domain.

Step 2: Click Email admin in the left-hand menu.

Step 3: Click the mailbox you want to access with ActiveSync/Direct Push.

Step 4: Click Mail access details.

Step 5: Scroll down to the Using a mobile device (e.g. mobile phone or PDA) section, then find the Using ActiveSync section. Make a note of your username.

Setting up ActiveSync on your device

Step 1: Click Start, then select ActiveSync, on your mobile device.

Note: The path to ActiveSync may vary from device to device. However, you can usually access ActiveSync from the Start->Programs menu.

Step 2: Click Settings, then Set up your device with ActiveSync.

Step 3: Enter "exchange.livemail.co.uk" in the Server address text-box, select the SSL check-box, then click Next.

Step 4: Enter your mailbox's ActiveSync username in the User name text-box. Then enter your Exchange mailbox's password in the Password text-box. Finally, enter "EXCHANGE" in the Domain text-box, then select the Save password check-box.

Step 5: Choose which services that you want to be synchronised by Direct Push, then click Finish.

Your mobile device will now synchronise with your Exchange mailbox and all new email will be pushed directly to you.
