Transferring a .uk domain to another host
Note: To host a domain's email and website with another provider, simply change its A, MX or nameserver records.
.uk domain transfer process
Note: To transfer a domain name that is less than 60 days old, you must fax or write to us on letter-headed paper in order to make the request.
Step 1: Log into your reseller control panel and select the domain you wish to transfer in the Domains section.
Step 2: Click Transfer options in the left hand menu.
Step 3: Next, enter the IPS tag of your new domain name registration provider. This is a short code, in capital letters, that you can obtain from your new provider.
Example: Fasthosts' IPS tag is FASTHOSTS.
Step 4: Click Continue, then click Finish to confirm the change.
The IPS tag will usually change within a few minutes. However, it can take up to 72 hours. You can check the IPS tag of your domain name by performing a WhoIs lookup.
What happens when the transfer is complete
- Fasthosts will no longer be responsible for maintaining the domain's registration or configuration.
- You will no longer be able to update the domain's registration details using your Fasthosts control panel.
- Any website and email services will remain hosted with Fasthosts, unless you or your new domain registration provider alters your nameserver, A or MX records.
