Award winning technology

Award winning technology

Microsoft has awarded Fasthosts the Hyper-V Cloud Partner 2011 and Worldwide Hosting Solutions Partner of the Year.

Our VPS platform uses enterprise grade Dell hardware, NetApp storage and Microsoft
Hyper-V virtualisation - giving you a high performance, secure and resilient solution.

Thanks to Microsoft's Hyper-V software, every VPS has its own dedicated operating system and run securely and independently from each other.

Automatic failover

99.99% uptime & automatic failover

With our virtual private servers (VPS) you'll receive a guarantee of 99.99% uptime giving you peace of mind that your data is safe and accessible. In the unlikely event that one of the physical servers encounters a hardware issue, your virtual private server will automatically failover to reserve hardware. We store our virtual private servers on a centralised SAN, which means your VPS can run on any of our physical servers without a loss of data.

Easy-to-use control panel

Powerful VPS management tools

Quickly respond to the changing needs of your business faster with our online control panel. You can keep track of your VPS' resources in dashboard displays and receive email and SMS alerts to let you know when you're close to capacity. You have the power and tools to set up permanent or temporary upgrades to your VPS relating to specified dates or usage trends.

You can increase resources to cope with expected peaks in use, and schedule them to return to their original settings at the end of that period. You can also increase resources immediately, and for as little as a day, to cope with unexpected peaks in use. It's just as easy to upgrade the storage space on your virtual server permanently - you can do this instantly through the control panel.

Industry leading

Two types of virtualisation

Many other providers use type 2 virtualisation for their virtual private servers, a cheaper alternative to type 1. It's a basic, low-end product, so make sure you know which product you're getting.

Quite often VPS' using type 2 virtualisation will run Parallels Virtuozzo. In this model, virtual private servers share aspects of a host operating system. This means that VPS' running on these platforms typically compete for resources within the operating system, which can impede performance.

With Fasthosts cloud technology (type 1) your VPS will have an independent, isolated operating system and will easily access hardware resources dedicated to them through a thin hypervisor.

So make sure you get the best virtual private server (VPS) by understanding how different types of virtualisation and server architecture can affect performance.

Type 1: High-end virtualisation
Type 1 virtualisation means that virtual private servers have independent, isolated operating systems and access hardware resources easily through a thin hypervisor.

Type 1: high end virtualisation Type 2: Low end virtualisation
Type 2 virtualisation means that virtual private servers run on top of a virtual machine manager. They share aspects of a host operating system, which they must run through before they access hardware resources.

Type 2: low end virtualisation Platform design
As well as choice of virtualisation technology, a virtual server platform can also be designed in different ways to provide varying levels of performance and resilience to customers.

Clustered - Fasthosts
Virtual private servers share the resources of several physical servers and centralised storage for high performance. Fasthosts uses a clustered architecture, which supports automatic failover and load balancing - giving your virtual server better performance and high availability.

Standalone - Some of our competitors
Virtual private servers run on specific physical servers and use direct-attached storage. A virtual private server that operates from a standalone architecture does not provide load balancing and automatic failover, providing less resilience.
