The Role

At Fasthosts, our Reception staff are responsible for providing high-quality customer service and ownership of the Receptionist's duties that include (but by no means limited to) receiving and signing in visitors, receiving and responding to incoming telephone calls, coordinating security passes, and maintaining relevant logs and documentation.

Brief description of responsibilities:

  • Provide a friendly welcome to all visitors to the site, and professionally inform them of Health & Safety procedures, and any other information relevant to their visit and ensure they have the correct authorisations in place
  • Book and sign in visitors
  • Greet staff, maintaining records of their arrival on-site at all times including those outside of normal working hours for health and safety purposes
  • Receive and appropriately direct incoming telephone calls through the Reception in a professional and positive manner to the relevant departments
  • Arrange Taxi’s for staff and Visitors and document each booking
  • Assist with Emergency evacuations of the building
  • Maintain the Data Centre access log in accordance to the Data Centre process.
  • Document all site activity whilst on duty
  • Register contract cleaners onto Company premises
  • Receive/sign for deliveries as appropriate
  • Monitor security cameras throughout each shift and follow Company procedures to report any issues that arise
  • Inform line manager of any operational problems that occur during their shift
  • Assist in providing appropriate paperwork for agency night security staff when they provide night security cover

Additionally, we need our Receptionists to be diligent in all aspects of health and safety.

Our offices are manned 24/7 and we ask our receptionists support the business and its employees on a rotating shift pattern of 3 x 12-hour shifts in an 8-day shift cycle (07:00 - 19:00) Monday to Sunday. We do ask for an element of flexibility from our reception staff to ensure there is adequate cover in times of absence.

What experience do I need?

If you have worked in a similar role previously that would be useful, but providing you can tick the boxes below we want to hear from you…


  • Excellent telephone manner
  • Superior communication skills both verbal and written and demonstrate a professional approach at all times
  • IT Literate including experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel). (if you have exposure to G-Suite (Google) then that would be advantageous but we can teach you that!)
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Demonstrable Time management and prioritisation skills
