Fasthosts at Cheltenham's half marathon

fasthosts runners

Running is part of the culture at Fasthosts. Halfway through a nine-to-five, Fasthosts runners spend their lunch hours sneaking in a swift five-to-nine kilometres.

We’ve previously competed in the Gloucester 10k and have won the Corporate Challenge three years in a row. This weekend, we upped the distance and the Fasthosts team entered the Company Challenge for the Cheltenham half marathon. The race started 9am Sunday morning at Cheltenham Racecourse, and despite issues with traffic and road closures, our team of six runners were all at the start line on time sporting running vests in the Fasthosts colours. The course looped through Cheltenham passing up and down the town centre and its surrounding areas. The route took the runners past Pittville park and Montpellier. route Throughout the race our runners, alongside the 3500 other participants, were cheered on by residents of Cheltenham who had come out to show their support.

Conditions were perfect for runners and spectators – a chilly morning sunrise with barely any wind. Every two miles volunteers handed out refreshments to the runners, who filled themselves up on water, Lucozade and Jelly Babies. Dotted around the course were musicians who spurred on the runners with bass drums, violins and bagpipes. The final two miles of the half-marathon consisted of a loop around Cheltenham Racecourse, where in the wide open space the wind picked up as the runners made their way to the finish line. Two of our runners were half marathon debutants, and three of them finished the race in a personal best time.

The first runner in a Fasthosts vest to cross the finish line was Mike Smith, who finished the race in 1:40:33, just a few minutes ahead of Chris James who finished in 1:43:56. As a team Fasthosts came 13th in the Corporate Challenge. Upon crossing the finish line, each runner was presented with a medal to commemorate their accomplishment. Well done all! fasthosts runners
